Mark Salling: Skateboard Boy - The Gossip Girls Posted: 27 Aug 2010 11:16 AM PDT Friday, August 27, 2010 Staving off on-set boredom, Mark Salling was spotted skateboarding around the "Glee" studio earlier today (August 27). The 28-year-old actor looked cool and casual in a button-up shirt and distressed jeans with Converse All-Stars as he rolled past the paparazzi. In related news, it seems there's some bad blood between Mark and his co-star/ex-girlfriend Naya Rivera, to the point that she egged and keyed his car earlier this week. An inside source revealed, "[Naya] is crazy. They dated, as in casually dated, for a while but it was never anything really serious. That was made clear from the beginning. There is surveillance video from a local store. Literally, you see her buying eggs! That girl is just mental." In an attempt to suppress the drama, Mark posted a picture of himself and Naya with the caption, "silly rumors, we're the best of friends." Posted: 24 Aug 2010 04:03 AM PDT Nine days, 230 miles, several rainy downpours and an injured hip later, the two Long Valley teens who headed out to skate the state to raise money for childhood cancer two weeks ago, reached the end of their trip. Last Wednesday, Danny Brookes and Edwin Zhang, both 16, reached their last stop at Cape May, and for the first time since they started their quest on Aug. 10, threw their skateboards in a car and drove the rest of the way back home. So far, the teens have raised $9,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand, a foundation that raises money for childhood cancer research. Alex's Lemonade Stand was founded by Alexandra "Alex" Scott, a young girl with cancer who held lemonade stands in her front yard to raise money for childhood cancer research. Alex died in 2004, at the age of 8. Though, at the moment, they're just below the halfway point for their goal of $20,000, Brookes and Zhang are not discouraged. "Even though we didn't raise our total goal of $20,000, I still feel like we made a pretty big impact," Zhang said. Liz Scott, Alex's mother, said in an e-mail statement to the Daily Record that when she heard of Brooke's and Zhang's idea, she was "amazed that two teenage boys would be so dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer." "These two boys are great examples of the spirit of Alex and Alex's Lemonade Stand - that anyone, at any age, can make a difference in the world. We are inspired by their commitment to this cause," Scott said. The teens' arrival to Cape May to set up their final lemonade stand to raise money for the organization came without pomp and circumstance, but brought with it plenty of satisfaction. "I hope that the money that we raised will help someone significantly," Brookes said. "We've put hope into a lot of people's hearts and minds. About 100 miles into the trip, Brookes began having severe hip pain, so he took some pain medication and biked 40 miles one day, and 10 miles the next, until his tire popped. Then, he got right back on his longboard and skated the rest of the way. When Brookes and Zhang got to Cape May, a family with a young daughter who'd survived a very rare form of childhood kidney cancer stopped by to tell the teens they appreciated what they were doing. "It really helped us to know that we were doing something really good for a bunch of children," Brookes said. Brookes and Zhang - who plan on making this an annual event - are still accepting donations. For more information, visit their website, www.SkateCapeMay.com. Posted: 22 Aug 2010 03:58 AM PDT 2010-08-22 13:01:02 - LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/22/10 -- Red Bull Flugtag brought many things to Long Beach today: the Spruce Goose, the Jetsons, the Flintstones and more than 105,000 spectators. The crowd was so enormous that the 710 freeway's exit ramp to the area was closed, all parking garages were at capacity and traffic was gridlocked throughout the downtown area. The hundreds of thousands that secured a spot were rewarded with the spectacle of human flight as 34 teams launched their crafts off a 30-foot flight deck in an attempt to defy gravity. Girl power ruled the day as team Peepin' it Real floated into first place with a flight distance of 98 feet. The all-female team from Newport Beach, who are students at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UCLA, beat out teams comprised of mechanical and aerospace engineers, U.S. Navy rescue divers and the U.S. Coast Guard. Team pilot Corinne Schnieders admitted that "This was probably the most fun I've ever had. My flight was much smoother than I'd imagined. I just floated down and landed like a marshmallow." "It was peeptastic!" added teammate Suzy Strutner. For claiming first place, team Peepin' it Real will be headed to Arizona for a flight with Red Bull Air Race World Champion, Kirby Chambliss, at his "Flying Crown Ranch." In second place was eco-friendly team Green Machine from Las Vegas, and in third was team Airforce One who sailed into the harbor on an 8-foot tall paper mache head modeled after President Obama's head. The coveted People's Choice Award went to Green Army Men, who, despite the heat, stayed in their eye-catching head-to-toe green army men costumes the entire day. Red Bull Flugtag, which means "flying day" in German, is a competition that dares both the brave and the brainy to design, build and pilot homemade flying machines off a 30-foot high ramp in hopes of achieving human-powered flight. While distance was definitely important, the crafts were also judged on two other criteria -- creativity and showmanship -- by a panel of celebrity judges including actor Cheech Marin, Dave "The King of Mexico" Sanchez from KROQ's "The Kevin and Bean Show," actress Nicole Sullivan, professional skateboarder Ryan Sheckler and "The Bachelor Pad" reality star Tenley Molzahn. Sheckler, who opened the event by launching himself off the flight deck on his skateboard, said, "This was amazing! We got a ton of people to show up and there were some really great crashes." Cheech Marin said simply, "Red Bull Flugtag. Is. Good." The first Red Bull Flugtag was held in Vienna in 1991. Since then, more than 80 Red Bull Flugtags have been held around the world -- from London to San Francisco -- attracting up to 300,000 spectators at one event! The international flight distance record now stands at 207 feet and was just set in Minneapolis/St. Paul on July 24, 2010, after having stood for eight years! This is the third Red Bull Flugtag event in the U.S. this summer after stops in Miami and Minneapolis/St. Paul earlier this year where a new World Record was set with a 207-foot flight. Red Bull Flugtag is making its final U.S. stop of the year in Philadelphia on September 4th. Red Bull Flugtag Long Beach will also be featured in a reality series called "On the Wings of Glory" airing Sundays after baseball starting September 5th on FOX Sports Network. While the teams let their imaginations soar, there were still a few rules in the sky. First off, all flying machines had to be entirely human-powered (no external energy sources or stored power). And, no matter what they say, size does matter, as all crafts had to weigh no more than 450 lbs. (including the pilot).
